Placemat Clutch – August Monthly Craft Challenge

This month’s challenge was a lot of fun. I was looking forward to it and told myself to do it early so I could post. Of course that didn’t happen πŸ™‚

But without further ado…here it is!

I started by taken a thick placemat and folding it up 3/4’s. I then sewed along the edges. I measured the half way mark on the bag and made a mark so I would know where to put my snap.
When you get the snaps it has a little metal piece on the back of it…take that off but save it. I used this as my template to figure out where to cut. Make a mark where you want your snap and then line it up with the bottom part of the bag. You want to make sure that everything will match up perfectly or it won’t close correctly. When the snaps were both on you can see that it was very ugly once folded.
I took a pretty flower that I had on hand and hot glued it onto the metal piece of the snap

I then had L model the bag for me… she looks thrilled πŸ™‚

Although I loved the bag I thought it was missing something. So I added a teal ribbon along the one side to give it a pop of color.

I then tucked three diapers inside to make sure they would fit. I also got a small wipe holder in there but forgot to take a picture. I hope you like it as much as I do

Remember to join in on my monthly challenge. Stay tuned for September’s Challenge!!

  1. OMG I totally missed August shame on me… I am teaching a 16 yr old to sew and we took scrap flannel and made baby burp clothes for her to learn how to hem, do a straight and zig zag stitch we still might try this next even though month is over.

  2. I’m hoping my schedule allows me to partake in September’s challenge. I just love your challenges. πŸ™‚ on pins and needles.
